10 Advantages Of Using A Houston LED Lights
What is an LED?
LED, short for light-emitting diode, is a semiconductor capable of generating light through electroluminescence. It produces visible light when an electric current passes through. In other terms, an LED is the exact opposite of a photovoltaic cell that converts visible light to electricity.
LED lighting is a preferred option for commercial, industrial, and residential applications. Many people have chosen to switch to LED lighting because it is more energy-efficient, durable, and cost-friendly. Some of the advantages of LED lighting are outlined below.
1. Superior Lifespan
The average LED light has a lifespan of around 50,000 hours, compared to just a few thousand hours for the regular incandescent bulbs. When the conditions are right, an LED light can last for 12 years without blowing out or needing replacement. However, the same cannot be said for incandescent or even fluorescent bulbs. Their superior lifespan thus means you never have to worry about replacing your bulbs every few months.
2. They Are Incredibly Energy Efficient
LED lights produce more useful lumens than any other artificial lighting out there. In addition to this, more than 95% of the energy supplied to the LED is converted to light energy, reducing energy wastage even further. This can be measured in the amount of light the led bulb emits per unit watt of power supplied. By producing more useful lumens with less heat generated, LED lighting is considered to be one of the most energy-efficient lighting methods on the market today.
3. LED Lights Are Environmentally Friendly
More and more consumers and companies are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and impact the environment. LED lights are energy-efficient and contain fewer elements that could pollute the environment compared to other lighting options combined. In addition to reducing your energy usage, LED lights to contain no mercury or other elements considered toxic to the environment. They also do last a lot longer, reducing the amount of waste that would end up in landfills as well.
The manufacturing process of LEDs is environmentally friendly too. Unlike fluorescent lighting that uses mercury vapor, none of these elements is present in LED bulbs. No special handling is thus required when handling these light bulbs at the end of their life, as it is with incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.
4. Works Relatively Well In Cold Conditions
Most traditional sources of light don’t do well in cold weather. An excellent example of these is fluorescent lamps, whose efficiency drops significantly with every drop in temperature. Fluorescent bulbs also require almost double the energy needed to start, which doesn’t help with light intensity either. LED lamps, however, perform exceptionally well in the same or even lower temperatures and still maintain the same light intensity. This is one of the reasons why many people prefer using LED lamps for most outdoor applications, such as lighting their parking lots, outdoor signage, perimeter lighting, etc.
LED lights are quite common in meat lockers, freezers, refrigerated display cases, and cold storage spaces are well. Aside from their unrivaled energy efficiency, LED lamps to produce the perfect light spectrum of these cold units. They also produce less heat compared to other sources, hence a better choice.
